{"id":12,"date":"2013-05-06T15:26:40","date_gmt":"2013-05-06T15:26:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sallytrask.com\/?page_id=12"},"modified":"2013-05-07T15:40:09","modified_gmt":"2013-05-07T15:40:09","slug":"pilates","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/sallytrask.com\/?page_id=12","title":{"rendered":"Pilates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What is Pilates?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pilates is a safe, balanced exercise method that conditions and energises the whole body.\u00a0 Exercises focus on developing core strength, healthy breathing patterns and spinal flexibility, mobility and alignment.\u00a0 Whilst the exercises are flowing and gentle they can also be challenging!<\/p>\n<p>Pilates teaches &#8216;mindful&#8217; movement \u2013 ie. mental focus\/concentration on the quality of your movement.\u00a0 Tuning into your body and deepening self-awareness develops the mind\/body connection as your body learns or re-learns to move at its optimum.\u00a0 This can bring about many positive changes!<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;Our body moves as our mind moves&#8217;.\u00a0 (Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>History of Pilates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Pilates method of exercise is named after Joseph Pilates who was born in 1880, near Dusseldorf, Germany.\u00a0 Having suffered with his health in early years, he developed a programme of exercise and body building that helped him overcome his own physical limitations.\u00a0 He emigrated to the United States in 1923, meeting his wife Clara during the voyage, and together they opened a fitness studio in New York. By the early 1960&#8217;s the exercise style of &#8216;Pilates&#8217; had become widely popular.\u00a0 The original form of Pilates has evolved over the years and specialists are now using a variety of modified versions of the original method.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Pilates?
